The research work was defended before a jury Monday May 23, 2022.
Founded in 2008, the University of Maroua is a public institution whose main mission is to develop and transmit knowledge and bring higher forms of culture and research to the highest level.
To date, the university of Maroua total 14 years of existence, with thousands of students and teachers in the institution.
It is however the first that a woman has defended a thesis in Spanish literature in a Cameroonian university.
In the presence of the supervisors, her university friends and family, she defended her thesis.
The jury was chaired by prof Ononomo Abeen Sosthéne.
Her thesis focused on “Representaciones de la mujer en la narrativa viejera de Cristina Morato : conformismo y anticonformiste” Loosely translated into English as “Representation of women in the old story of Christina Morato: conformism and anti-conformism”.
At the end, the jury awarded her an excellent score.
Haoua Balkissou has since expressed her gratitudes to all those who stood by her prior to the defense.
“I am very happy to support this day although I am the only one but it was necessary to make the difference and moreover very happy to be honored by the presence of my university friends and my family who supported me a lot” She said before adding “At first, it was difficult. I was almost discouraged but with the advice of my supervisors, I held on”.
The young lady now marks her story in the historical page of the said university much solicited by students who came not only from the four corners of Cameroon, but also from Chad and Niger.
