Cameroon’s MMA fighter, Francis Ngannou has criticised Cameroonians who mocked him for not mastering the lyrics of the country’s national anthem in the viral video of him in the U.S.
A viral video trending in Cameroon of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion singing the anthem in the midst of university dons at the Havard Business School has provoked reactions, with many mocking him for his inability to master the lyrics of Cameroon’s national anthem.
Francis Ngannou in response has made a video, lashing out at his detractors whom he said, failed to see the significance of his action and its impacts. “… I am in Havard, with people from over 20 nationalities who all stand up to the Cameroon national anthem, but all that some compatriots see are my errors!” he said.
“…I could have chosen to sing benskin, or bikutsi, they had no choice. It was my show and I determined what went on at that time,” Ngannou added.
The newly signed PFL Fighter, however, saw the funny side of it too, after admitting he sang in French – for “fear of his mistakes being detected if he did so in English.”
“… I could have sung in English, but I hesitated because it’s been long, I sat on a desk. I sang in French, and they could not understand a single word. I could even have insulted them,” Ngannou said jokingly.
