Housing Minister Says Those Subleasing Mbanga Bakoko Low-cost Houses Will Face The Law

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Celestine Ketcha Courtes has frowned at the abuse of the Social Houses constructed by the state in Mbanga Bakoko, Douala.

Minister Celestine Ketcha Courtes reveals that the houses have been subleased by buyers to tenants at exorbitant prices.

The Minister wrote in a Press Release that, “It has come to my attention that the Mbanga Bakoko social houses in Douala are leased and subleased  at outrageous costs.”

According to the Minister, this action may undermine the President’s efforts to provide decent and affordable housing to citizens.

The buyers of the property are believed to have signed a contract with the state, with an agreement for the houses not to be subleased to a third party.

Defaulters of this rule, according to the minister, will risk losing ownership of the property and be prosecuted by the law.
