Manchester United shot-stopper, Andre Onana has brushed aside criticism after he conceded another goal in United’s game against RC Lens yesterday at Old Trafford.

It was in the 23rd minute that the Cameroonian international found himself in a tight spot, as Florian Sotoca, with his keen eye, spotted him lurking near the edge of his own penalty area.

The French striker pounced on a misplaced pass from Diogo Dalot in a stunning display of skill and precision. With impeccable timing and finesse, he executed a masterful chip shot that sailed over Onana.

In a valiant effort to prevent the inevitable, Onana desperately scrambled back in a bid to deny the opposition. Nevertheless, despite his best efforts, the former Ajax sensation found himself and the ball in the back of the net.

Critics took to social media to taunt the shot-stopper. They neglected to recognize Sotoca’s incredible brilliance, however, who single-handedly broke the impasse with a moment of pure magic.

Many critics have bashed Andre Onana on social media for failing to keep a clean sheet in his third appearance for the Red Devils. Onana, meanwhile, has brushed off the criticism and is focusing on the challenge ahead.

After the game, he shared his optimism about representing Manchester United and said he is determined to succeed at the club.

“This stadium breathes football, history, and glory. I am convinced that we will have great moments in the Theater of Dreams. We’ll stick together in hard times, and we’ll always move forward. Glory, glory, Manchester United,” he said after the game.

Taking Responsibility

However, in an interview with MUTV, Onana accepted the blame for Lens’ miracle goal.

“I’m happy for the win. Of course, we can always be better. Some things we have to try to fix. Like I always say, I am responsible for everything, especially when we concede goals,” he said when speaking of his performance.

“I’m proud of what my defenders did. I’m the big man at the back, so I take all the criticism, all the pressure on me. It was a great game for me and for the guys, some important goals, and I’m happy for everything,” he went on, adding, “I think this year will be great, I am very excited for the coming games.”

The English Premier League (EPL) officially kicks off on August 11, 2023. Manchester United, however, officially launches its season on August 14, 2023, at Old Trafford against Wolves. Andre Onana is expected to make his official EPL debut against Wolves as the new number-one goalkeeper.

“I’m already excited for the Wolves game, but we will have to prepare well because it’s not going to be easy. Everybody is working hard, and I’m very confident and positive that everything will be right if we do the right things,” the Cameroonian international concluded on a note of optimism.
