In an interview that he granted France 24, the Congolese-born interim president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was full of praise for the infrastructure that Cameroon put together to host the ongoing CHAN2020.
He mentioned that the infrastructure was one of the best so far and that the competition was taking a rather positive trajectory, unlike what many people had predicted.
While speaking to the International media on the organization of the tournament by Cameroon, Constant Omari stated that “Personally as an Interim President, I am very proud of Cameroon. I am proud of the infrastructure that has been built and those that have been rehabilitated… today you look at the Reunification Stadium in Douala, anyone who knows how that stadium three years ago was, would probably not recognize it going there today.
“When you see the Japoma Stadium, it is top class and even the ones in Yaoundé… I am proud that an African country can have this kind of infrastructure which can go a long way to sustain Football development in the country,” he praised.
When interrogated on the possible threats posed by the ravaging coronavirus pandemic on the smooth run of the CHAN, Constant Omari was adamant that the threats posed by the disease had been thoroughly mitigated by the authorities.
He mentioned that so far there have not yet been reported cases of mass Covid19 contamination as a result of the CHAN. In assessment, he noted that the competition so far has been a massive success and that it will do the country a lot of good if it continues so till the end of the tournament on February 7.
