The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have, against their will, spent the night in Maputo, Mozambique.
Earlier scheduled to leave the country Monday, November 16 after their match, Mozambican authorities have grounded the Camair-Co aircraft. According to a source in the Lions’ den, Mozambican authorities are demanding Cameroon to meet up with fuel invoices of its national airline company Camair-Co before the plane can take off .
A source in the communication department of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon has hinted that Camair-Co failed to fulfill electronic payment for fuel invoices to Mozambican authorities before the plane left Douala on Saturday, November 14, 2020. While in Maputo, Mozambique, Camair-Co’s proposal to pay in cash was rejected by Mozambican authorities.
An official in the team has stated that Mozambican authorities have equally turned down a proposal from Camair-Co to pay electronically from Douala.
With all these, the Indomitable Lions say Mozambican authorities are demonstrating bad faith by grounding the plane despite all proposals to solve the issue of fuel invoices.
As Camair-Co tussles with Mozambican authorities on when the plane will finally take off, players have been decrying unnecessary delay that is hampering other professional duties in their clubs.
The lions of Cameroon defeated the Mambas of Mozambique two goals to zero in Maputo Monday, November 16, 2020 in a day 4 AFCON 2022 qualification match.
Last week, Cameroon defeated Mozambique in Douala 4 goals to 1.
The victory places Cameroon in the first position in Group F with 10 points. The performance already qualifies Cameroon to take part in the African Cup of Nations 2022 to be hosted by Cameroon.
