Indomitable Lions engage last-minute training ahead of Burundi game

The Indomitable Lions will be having their last major training session today ahead of the crucial AFCON qualifier game against the Swallows of Burundi tomorrow.

Enthusiasm is building among fans and the nation as a whole, as the Lions prepare for a game that will decide Cameroon’s participation at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Fans have been turning out in their thousands to watch previous training sessions of the Indomitable Lions.

During yesterday’s training session at the Roumde Adja stadium in Garoua, the Indomitable Lions focused on automation and game cohesion. Today’s training at 7 p.m. will focus on pitch recognition, said the team in a post.

Before today’s training session, whose first 15 minutes will be open to journalists, Coach Rigobert Song says they will hold a technical committee meeting at 10 am and then a pre-match press conference at 4 p.m.

Tomorrow’s game is a must-win for Song and the boys. A defeat or a draw with less than four goals will mean Cameroon is out of AFCON 2023.

There are speculations of an unprecedented population turnout tomorrow at the Roumde Adja stadium for the game.

In a release on Sunday, the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) said the match would be a “sellout”.

The Federation warned that only those with tickets, invitations, or accreditations would be allowed into the stadium.

“The Cameroon Football Federation encourages fans to give their unconditional support to the Indomitable Lions before, during, and after this decisive match,” wrote FECAFOOT in the release signed by its secretary general, Blaise Djounang.

The winner of the Cameroon-Burundi game will fill one of the three vacant spots on the list of qualified teams.

Among the teams that have already booked tickets for the AFCON are Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Senegal, and the host country, Ivory Coast.
