The newly appointed head coach of the Indomitable Lions, Marc Brys, officially signed his two-and-a-half-year contract with a renewal option at the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education this evening, April 8, 2024.
On one hand, to sign the contract was Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. However, Samuel Eto’o, the president of Fecafoot, was notably unavailable.
Minister Kombi explained Eto’o’s absence by stating the FECAFOOT boss is currently attending to his father’s burial arrangements.
A letter circulating on social media purporting to be from FECAFOOT supported this explanation.
Samuel Eto’o rejected the appointment of Brys and other members of the technical team, asserting that the Ministry of Sports violated existing texts governing their relationship.
The FECAFOOT executive committee, on Saturday, gave Eto’o 72 hours to appoint a new coach for the Indomitable Lions, a decision that is still awaited.
The newly appointed Marc Brys, of Belgian nationality, takes over from former Indomitable Lions captain Rigobert Song, whose contract ended in February.
Before his appointment as the coach of the Indomitable Lions, Marc Brys led OH Leuven for three years. However, due to a poor start of the 2023/2024 season, he was let go by the team in October 2023. He has no prior experience of coaching national team.
