Insecurity In Yaounde: Government takes stringent measures

Handbags and other packages of doubtful content have been prohibited in all restaurants, bars and drinking spots in Mfoudi Division in general and Yaounde in particular.

Going by a decision signed Monday, November 9, 2020, by the first Assistant Senior Divisional Officer for Mfoudi Division, the decision is to ensure the security of people and goods in Yaounde and other places in the division.

The civil administrator says defaulters of the new measure will face the wrath of the law. He calls on divisional officers, the gendarmerie, police, owners of business places mentioned above to strictly implement the order.

Yaounde has witnessed at least five artisanal bomb explosions in drinking spots since the beginning of this year. This has threatened security in Cameroon’s political capital.

Several anglophones in Yaounde have been arrested and questioned for such happenings.

It remains unclear how effective the measure of banning bags in business centres will help to stop insecurity in Yaounde.
