Cameroon’s Intermediate Lions have qualified for the quarter-finals of the 6th edition of the African Nations Championship.
In a crucial encounter against Burkina Faso Sunday, January 24th, 2021, at the Amadou Ahidjou Stadium in Yaounde, the Lions separated from Burkina Faso in a goalless draw. This places Cameroon with five points while Burkina Faso bows out of the championship with three points.
In Group A, Cameroon qualified in the second position with five points while Mali came first in the group. This means Zimbabwe with no point and Burkina Faso with three points have been eliminated.
The Intermediate Lions of Cameroon will therefore travel to Douala to play against the first team to qualify in Group B.
Though the Lions have qualified for the second round, some Cameroonians feel disappointed, pointing accusing fingers at the head coach Martin Ndtougho Mpile for fielding players not because they are qualified but for other reasons.
At the Japoma Stadium in Douala Sunday night, Mali defeated Zimbabwe by one goal to zero.
