International Forum to End Anglophone Crisis Underway in Canada

An International Forum aimed at working towards the resolution of the bloody conflict in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon is currently ongoing in Toronto, Canada.

This initiative of the Non-Governmental Organization, the Coalition for Dialogue and Negotiations began on October 29, 2021, and is expected to end today November 1, 2021.

At least 100 persons, who have traced their roots back to the troubled regions are participating in the 4-day forum to ensure a return to peace to these regions.

The organizers of this initiative are hopeful that the result of the exchanges at the forum will help resolve the crisis.

Dr. Denise Foretia, the Co-Chair of the Coalition for Dialogue and Negotiations said at the conference “Everyone knows that there is no military solution to this war. The Government cannot win militarily. We must find all ways to bring peace and that is only possible when there is a broad-based consensus on the process to achieve a mediated settlement.”

Amongst notable participants of this forum are major actors in the Anglophone crisis like a representative of the Ambazonian Governing Council Dr. Julius Nyih, Professor Carlson Anyangwe, Mark Bareta, John Mbah Akuro, Barrister Agbor Balla, Dabney Yerima, and PCC Moderator Reverend Fonki Samuel among others.

According to the Co-Chair of CDN Dr. Denise Foretia, discussions since Friday have been on “How they can collaborate to ensure to ensure that there is good access to humanitarian aid and how they can work to uphold human rights…”

He also revealed to The Guardian Post Newspaper that participants have found common grounds on “things like to ensure schools to resume effectively without necessarily making people lose faith in education.”

He said the participants arrived at a consensus that things such as lockdowns had to be very minimal and also well-coordinated, applicable only if very necessary.

Several other things according to Dr. Denise Foretia, remain to be ironed out by the participants. He said of the major absence of some bigwigs of the crisis like Chris Anu and Dr. Sako Ikome, that they denied attending the forum.

Despite several requests forwarded to them according to the CDN Co-Chair, they would deny being part of the forum. He nevertheless says further efforts are being employed to bring on board all major stakeholders of the Anglophone crisis to the table.
