Agnes Antoine Ntoumba, 40, was declared winner of the L’Oréal 2020 Prize thanks to her successful invention of an organic pesticide against mosquitoes.
According to French media, TV5 Monde, it is the first ever 100% organic pesticide invented to fight against malaria-spreading mosquitoes.
According to EcoMartin, Agnes Antoine Ntoumba is a Ph.D student in biological sciences at the Laboratory of Biology and Physiology of Animal organisms at the University of Douala. It also adds that as part of her research, she is developing bio-insecticides against a species of larvea using Nanoparticles from plants endemics.
Due to this invention, Agnes Antoine Ntoumba would become the first Cameroonian to win the prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO Young Talents for Sub-Sahara Africa Award.
This year’s award had over 20 researchers from more than 16 African countries competing for it. These 20 researchers were recognized for their academic excellence and dedication to foster scientific research in Africa.
