Japan Donates Equipment Worth FCFA 725 Million to CRTV

By Marie N. Carnu

The Japanese Government has donated equipment worth FCFA 725 million to Cameroon’s state broadcaster, Cameroon Radio and Television, CRTV.

The first batch of the equipment arrived in Cameroon on October 3, 2024.

CRTV said the donation will improve on its ability to deliver better quality images to viewers.

According to reports on national television, the equipment will be used to renovate Studio 1 of the public channel, located in Mballa 2, Yaoundé.

The studio will be equipped with “television equipment and office supplies” in the coming days.

CRTV confirmed that the equipment will arrive in two phases. The first batch arrived on October 3, 2024, and the second, which left from Dubai, is expected to arrive shortly.

“It should be noted that the cooperation between Cameroon and Japan is a multifaceted and infrastructure-rich cooperation, which has just been strengthened today with a donation of 725 million to reinforce the infrastructure of CRTV,” said the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane MEY.

Ahead of the reception, installation, and inauguration of the equipment, a working session between CRTV General Manager, Charles Ndongo, and the Japanese delegation, led by Lucas Bezira De Souza, took place at CRTV’s headquarters in Yaoundé.

According to CRTV, this project follows initial negotiations that began in 2018 in Japan.
