Yanick Fonki, Editor in Chief of Divine Mercy Radio Television, has once again been requested to remain in detention while awaiting judgement scheduled for next Friday, March 31, 2023.

In a court session held this Wednesday, March 22, 2023, the presiding Judge, Magistrate Njonjo Njie, adjourned the matter for next Friday, pending judgement.

The matter was initially heard yesterday Tuesday, March 21 where all parties positioned to the judge that the matter had been amicably settled and that the complainant was withdrawing all charges.

Considering that the accused had pleaded guilty, he was going to be judged on the non-possession of valid insurance at the time the accident happened.

On that, Magistrate Njonjo requested the matter be adjourned for this Wednesday, March 22, for final judgement.

Unfortunately, the matter that did not last for 20 minutes in chambers today, was re-adjourned to next week Friday, March 31, 2023.

It is unclear what is delaying the passing of the judgement, which legal experts say, is the best route to secure Yanick Fonki’s freedom.

At Press time, Yanick Fonki was ushered back to the Buea Central Prison, where he has been remanded since Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
