The leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM), Prof Maurice Kamto, has lodged a complaint with the National Communication Council (NCC) against nine newspapers, accusing them of publishing inaccurate, unverified, and defamatory information.

He accused these media outlets of fabricating information linking the CRM party to the February 28 and March 3, 2025, attacks on government officials in Belgium by the radical group, Brigade Anti-Sardinards.

In a statement accompanying his complaint, Kamto further denounced what he described as “professional misconduct” by the newspapers.

These papers include Info Matin, L’Expression, Génération Libre, Le Quotidien, Réalité Plus, The Reporter, Newswatch, Le Soir and Le Pélican.

Kamto Says No Links With BAS

The CRM leader specifically refuted claims linking him to the BA, a radical non-governmental organisation based abroad.

“I have no connection whatsoever with the BAS,” Kamto stated, emphasising that certain media reports had misrepresented facts to mislead the public and damage his image.

His complaint to the NCC further calls for a review of the alleged breaches and urges the regulatory body to take appropriate action against the publications.

As of now, the accused newspapers have yet to publicly respond to the allegations.

This development adds to ongoing tensions between the opposition leader and some of the Cameroonian press, raising further debate about media ethics and political reporting in the country.
