Chungong Aquila Ndasi, a tricycle (Keke) driver tragically killed in the accident at Soppo OIC Market in Buea, was laid to rest on Thursday, July 25, in Bokova, on the outskirts of Buea.
The funeral drew a large turnout of “keke” drivers, along with family members and loved ones, demonstrating a remarkable show of solidarity. From the Buea Hospital Mortuary to Bokova, over a hundred tricycle riders mourned Ndasi, who lost his life due to the reckless driving of another car, which also claimed the lives of two others.
The streets of Buea saw significant traffic congestion as numerous Keke drivers joined the funeral procession.
Born on December 21, 1984, Ndasi passed away on July 7, 2024. Reports indicate that he had parked his tricycle at OIC on the roadside when a car crashed into him and other pedestrians, resulting in injuries to several individuals.
In response to the accident, the mayor of Buea has ordered the relocation of roadside vendors in an effort to prevent similar incidents in the future.
