Kidney patients strike in Bamenda

Kidney patients in Bamenda are calling on the government to install new dialysis machines at the hemodialysis center of the Bamenda regional hospital.

Physically frail but determined to see their right to health respected, the patients gathered at Bamenda regional hospital Tuesday, January 5th, 2021 in protest.

According to one of the patients Mbinglo Francis Wanso, the situation of the center has gotten worse over time with just a single dialysis machine functioning out of the eight.

In a telephone interview with Mimi Mefo Info from Ebolowa, one of the kidney patients decries what she calls total abandonment by the government. “I left Bamenda on Sunday to Ebolowa for dialysis when I discovered that there was no hope waiting on officials of the North West regional delegation of public health. We have been to the office of the regional delegate several times but he does not care about us. Dr. Kingsley Che Soh is indifferent to human suffering. I left Bamenda with swelling legs.”

The patient in anonymity says the regional delegate of public health administers on the basis of lies telling with his main intention being to protect his job and not the safety and health of patients.

Addressing striking patients in Bamenda, Dr. Kingsley Che Soh, regional delegate of public health called on the patients to be hopeful for an imminent re-equipment of the center as promised by the minister of public health Dr. Manounda Malachie.

To Dr. Mambap Alex, head of the hemodialysis center at the regional hospital, patients who can afford the cost of medical attention elsewhere should do so while waiting for the supply of the machines promised, their installation, and subsequent start of work.
