Killing of 5-year-old: Misinformation & Propaganda Turning Cameroonians Against Each Other

Many Cameroonians are still reeling from the shock of the death of little Ndialle Carol in Buea. Nevertheless, detractors have not wasted any time in concocting fake accounts of the incident which many citizens are still to recover from.

A popular video is making rounds on social media of a Francophone Cameroonian venting his frustration at the lynching of the Gendarme officer in Buea.

Amongst his several false claims and clear xenophobic utterances, he says the driver of the car in which the little girl was shot was transporting weapons.

“It is unacceptable that in a civilian vehicle, three weapons are discovered; two hand pistols and a war gun,” he confidently claimed.

The man in the video also downplayed the death of the innocent girl, saying she was not the first child to have died in a similar situation.

“Let’s not also forget that the Gendarme who lost his life is equally the son of a now bereaved mother,” he said. He also adds in the video that “if justice is not served for the death of that man, I would myself pick up an arm and go to Bamenda. I will kill everyone on my way so that you too can lynch me,” he declared.

A similar claim was also made on Television by a CPDM scribe, Patrick Rifoe. The politician claimed that the car, which he insists was driven by a man was suspected by the Gendarmes and requested to be searched.

According to his version of the story, the unfortunate incident culminated from a resistance of the driver to have his car searched by the Gendarme officer.
