Kribi: Two fishermen go missing at sea

Papi and Ochoka, two popular fishermen in Kribi have now gone missing for almost 10 days after taking to the high seas on June 10, 2021.

The pair had reportedly gone out for a three days fishing expedition, but other fishermen say they have not returned from the waters now, in what is already a 7 days delay.

With anguish, the several fishermen on the coast of Kribi are worried as every single day passing reduces the likelihood of finding the pair alive.

The fears of the other fishermen have been heightened given that some wrecks of the missing pair’s boat was discovered on the beach of Mpalla, a locality 5km away from the main town of Kribi.

Local shipowners in the town have also organised for search parties in the seas all to no avail. It is being speculated that the fishermen might have been on the end of an attack around Campo, a boarder town to Equatorial Guinea.

According to reports, many Cameroonian fishermen have sent complaints to the Cameroonian authorities about insecurity threats often posed on their path by Equatorial Guineans.

While the authorities are yet to react to situation at hand, fishermen in Kribi are constantly hoping that the two men somehow emerge from the waters unperturbed.
