A group of women on Monday August 29, 2022, stormed the palace of the Nfon Ekoko Mukete IV, Paramount ruler of Kumba-Bafaw in the South West Region of Cameroon — to urge for his intervention following the arrest of two Bafaw women.
The duo are Christians of the Presbyterian Church, PC Kumba Town.
They were arrested on Sunday, August 28, 2022 by the police, led by Ali Anougou, Kumba I Divisional Officer.
Their arrest came after they took part in a protest, demanding the departure of the current Presbyterian Church Pastor, Reverend Mary Nduma Wose and her Associate.
Addressing the women, the Nfon Ekoko Mukete IV reiterated his “inability to intervene in church matters” after which he summoned the State Prosecutor of Meme High Court and Court of First Instance in Kumba.
According to our source, “He said he had no competence over church matters, he however, invited the state counsel who ordered the arrest of the two women. The state counsel explained to the women that the church was an institution and not an individual and so there must be peace and order.”
“Address your worries to competent authorities instead of disturbing the entire church,” adviced the state council.
While Nfon Ekoko Mukete IV urged for calm, the two women are still in detention.
The PC Kumba crisis has been ongoing for several months now.
Few days ago, fetish objects including a dead cock were discovered at the entrance to the church building, sparking fear and suspicion.
