Kupe Manenguba celebrates as Bangem-Nguti road construction begins

The people of Kupe Manenguba, in the South West Region, through their traditional rulers, are celebrating the start of works on the road linking the Divisional headquarters, Bangem, to Nguti.

The vital infrastructure, which has been the plea of the local population for several years, will link up the three Subdivisions of Kupe Manenguba, disenclave several villages and open up business and touristic avenues in the Division once it is completed.

The construction was launched September 13 in Bangem by the Senior Divisional Officer of Kupe Manenguba, Mungambo Ekema Williams, in the presence of officials of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, which is the contracting authority, as well as traditional rulers and elite.

The Chiefs of Kupe Manenguba, led by the Chiefs Conference President, HRH Nnane Nnoko Emmanuel, on Sept. 14 poured libation blessing the construction, while thanking the government for remembering the Division at last.

The road was publicly announced in October last year by the Deputy Secretary General of the Presidency, Elung Paul Che, who is a prominent elite of Kupe Manenguba.

He said the road was the biggest project to be realised by the Biya regime in the Division since its creation in 1992.

Owing to insecurity, the construction and tarring of the 65km road is being handled by the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) of the Cameroon Army. The BIR is also construction the Kumba-Ekondo-Titi road, still in the South West Region, due to insecurity.

The Bangem-Nguti road has been more of a footpath for the past years, and bikes managed to transport people and goods on the road.

Owing to growing concerns from the local population, the Ministry of Public Works (MINTP) budgeted the road in this year’s plan at the cost of FCFA 7 billion, according to Cameroon Tribune.
