Lady Ponce Speaks Out In Support of Samuel Eto’o, Challenges Haters

In the wake of Samuel Eto’o Fils’ recent decision to resign as the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Cameroonian singer and songwriter, Adèle Ruffine Ngono, widely known as Lady Ponce, has voiced her support for the football icon, shedding light on the challenges he has faced during his tenure.

The Executive Committee of FECAFOOT rejected Eto’o’s resignation, signalling a tumultuous period for the former football star as he endeavours to bring about crucial reforms in the football governing body. Lady Ponce, in a heartfelt message posted on social media, offers her insights into the struggles faced by Eto’o and condemns the relentless attacks on him.

“Since you joined the FECAFOOT, they have turned it into the presidency of the republic, as if you were the Cameroonian president, to solve their problems,” the singer said.

In one poignant part of her message, Lady Ponce expresses her empathy for Eto’o.

“My beloved brother, how I understand you. They love those who embezzle public funds. They despise young people like you who have earned their money with dignity,” she said. This statement reflects the difficulties Eto’o encounters when attempting to effect change in a setting where skepticism and resistance are prevalent.

Lady Ponce goes on to highlight the intensity of the attacks against Eto’o.

“They have created what they call a death sentence against you to destroy you,” the music icon stated. This incisive statement emphasises the attempts to tarnish Eto’o’s reputation and thwart his efforts to reform FECAFOOT, illuminating the severity of the criticism he has received.

The singer also addresses the pervasive negativity on social media, asserting, “Cruelty has reached another level on Cameroonian social media. They are determined at all costs, by any means, to kill their brother by tarnishing him and denigrating him morning, noon, and night.” Lady Ponce condemns the relentless character assassination that Eto’o has been subjected to and calls attention to the toxic atmosphere prevalent on social media platforms.

Lady Ponce further emphasises the disproportionate focus on Eto’o, stating, “As if football can solve 1% of the problems that Cameroon is facing. Morning, noon, and night, it’s Eto’o, Eto’o, Eto’o, and they are pleased as if you were the child of an animal.” This critique underscores the need for a broader perspective on the challenges facing Cameroon, beyond the realm of football.

In the face of adversity, Lady Ponce offers words of encouragement to Eto’o, asserting, “My beloved brother, nothing will happen to you. You are a blessed child of God, and their hatred towards you will not change who you are and will never take away your blessings.” Her words serve as a rallying cry for resilience in the face of adversity, emphasizing Eto’o’s unwavering strength and purpose.

The singer also addresses broader societal issues.

“The level of hatred on social media is terrible. The young people who relentlessly attack a fellow young person while claiming to want change,” Lady Ponce said calling for introspection within Cameroonian society and urging a collective effort to foster a more positive and constructive discourse, especially among the youth.

In conclusion, Lady Ponce’s poignant quotes offer a unique perspective on the challenges faced by Samuel Eto’o in his quest to reform FECAFOOT. Her words serve as a reminder of the importance of resilience, unity, and constructive dialogue in the pursuit of positive change within Cameroon.
