Cardinals, bishops and other Christians from African and European countries are already in Douala ahead of the corpse removal of Christian Cardinal Tumi — Monday April 19th at 11: 00 am at Gannison hospital mortuary in Bonanjo Douala.

According to a source at the St. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral in Douala, Bishop Emeritus of the diocese of Kinkala of DR Congo Louis Portella Mbuyu, Bishop Yves Marie Monot of the diocese of Oueso of Congo Brazaville and archbishop Anatole Milandou of Brazaville have already arrived Douala Cameroon.

Other delegations including envoys from Vatican are already present.

With more than a million people from Cameroon and other countries expected to attend the burial of Cameroon’s lone Cardinal, the organising committee has put COVID-19 safety measures to curb infections.

At the mortuary for the corpse removal, only bishops, Cardinals, vicar generals, some selected priests, family members of Cardinal Tumi, officials of diocesan services and other associations would be allowed.

All other Christians and Cameroonians are expected to converge on the cathedral – where the funeral will proceed after the church service.

As Cameroon grapples with the coronavirus pandemic, the wearing of face mask is obligatory both in the cathedral and at the mortuary.

It remains unclear who will be representing the government of Cameroon in the burial.

Cardinal Christian Tumi died in Douala on April the 3rd, 2021, and will be buried on Tuesday April 2020.
