Patrice Motsepe, President of the African Football Confederation has confirmed the launch of the Africa Super League.

Patrice Motsepe disclosed this during the 44th Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ordinary General Assembly.

The competition which is expected to generate approximately 200 million dollars per year will kick off next year in August.

It is not yet known how many teams will compete in this league, but according to some reports, 24 clubs will be divided into three groups of eight teams before a knockout begins in the Round of 16.

Additionally, in order to remain in, the participating clubs would need to continue to meet strict requirements for the growth of women’s and youth football.
