Lawyers’ strike action set to kick off tomorrow

Lawyers Nationwide are set to embark on a 4-day strike action that will see them “refrain from going to the courts, State Counsel’s Chambers, Police Stations and gendarmerie brigades”.

In a statement by Barrister Benjamin Enow Agbor, the strike action is explained to be pursuant to the decision of the enlarged Fako Lawyers Association (FAKLA) meeting days ago that endorsed the Bar Council’s resolutions of 31 August for the action.

This it adds is also in view of the communique the Bar Council issued earlier today’s, September 15. The meeting had as agenda the review of resolutions taken by the Bar Council after evaluating the measures put in place by the government.

The ministry of Justice and some state institutions had promised to address the lawyers’ plights including what they said was the violation of their rights.

A statement from the Bar president, Patie Charles appreciated government for it’s efforts in examining their plights, but maintained the strike action will hold as today’s extraordinary meeting failed to produce any deliberations.

Names of defaulters Barrister Enow Agbo noted, “shall be forwarded to the Bar for necessary disciplinary action”.
