The Minister of Territorial Administration made these remarks as he addressed Administrative and Security officials at a closed-door meeting in Bamenda.
Minister Paul Atanga Nji mentioned that the government had already done all possible for separatist fighters to lay down their weapons and hand themselves over to the authorities.
The Territorial Administration boss threatened the fighters with military action should they fail to hand themselves in.
He mentioned that “If you are afraid to hand yourselves to the Divisional Officers, go to the Bishops, Priests, Pastors or Traditional Rulers… if you are in a group and are afraid, take your weapons with you and raise a white handkerchief in your left hand and a peace plant in your right hand to show that you have surrendered”.
However, the Minister also addressed separatist fighters who may be reluctant to drop their weapons and continue to take up arms against the state. He mentioned that only the state possesses the sole monopoly to “violence”.
“Don’t wait for the military to come looking for you, the Government is on course helping you all to drop your arms,” he concluded.
