Leaders of Coffin revolution protest at Kondengui prison demanding immediate release of Anglophone inmates

Anglophones arrested and detained at Yaounde Central Prison (Kondengui) in connection to the Anglophone crisis staged a protest Monday July 22 demanding for the immediate release of all those arrested in connection with the ongoing armed conflict.

Lawyers have revealed, thousands of Anglophones have been arrested since the escalation of the armed conflict in 2016.

The crisis which began as peaceful protest morphed into a full-blown war when the Biya regime rejected marginalisation claims tabled by Ambazonian leaders. Paul Biya later declared war on the English speaking population referring to pro independence fighters as terrorists.

Mancho Bibixy, Ngalim Felix, Penn Terrence, Ashu Gregoire, and Ngwa Joseph sang patriotic songs at the esplanade of the prison with some of the disgruntled inmates holding placards with inscriptions like “immediate release”, “Trump Help us”, and “Back to school in the Anglophone regions”.

The intensity of the protest overpowered prison warders on duty prompting a call for military re enforcement. A source in the prison told Mimi Mefo Info that elements of the gendarmerie and police surrounded the prison with some sent in to calm the situation.

To the protesters, they want the minister of justice and keeper of the seals to address their concerns and state when they will be released. They termed it inadmissible that they are calling for schools to resume in the North West and South West and are still kept behind bars though they have kids to send to school.

The Anglophone detainees expressed their determination to be set free, chanting the Ambazonia anthem.

Leaders of the coffin revolution have been championing the course for schools to resume in the anglophone regions of Cameroon.

In a four page document written by Mancho Bibixy and Ngalim Felix two weeks ago, they said the intention of initiators of the coffin revolution was ensure an entire generation does not go ‘blind’ through school boycott.

They think government has done a lot in the domain of improving schools in the Anglophone regions and thus children should return to school.
