A group of suspected Amba fighters stormed Magha village in Wabane subdivision, Lebialem division of the South West region yesterday, killing a teacher and abducting five other persons in the process.
Reports hold that the teacher was dragged from his house in broad day light, shot dead and the corpse abandoned behind his house. This was said to have been in the presence of his wife and children. The teacher whose name MMI could not get was said to be at sleep when his killers invaded his house and committed the act.
The teacher, whose duty post was reportedly in Noun Division of the West region, is said to have come to the village for a death celebration (cry die) when the suspected Amba boys men sent him to his early grave.
In consternation, his young wife, carrying a tender kid was later seen in a video narrating how it happened. According to her “I was in the kitchen this morning with my aunties who came to assist me in the death celebration. When were surprised and asked to walk out of the house.
Unidentified gunmen dashed into the house and my husband was sleeping on the sofa. He just returned from the death celebration to rest and all I could hear from the house was noise, noise coming from everywhere.
“And when I tried to find out what was happening I was threatened and sent out of the house. I went out and the noise seized only for one of them to come and tell me that he has already killed the thing and it’s behind the house. And I rushed to the scene only to find my husband helpless in a pool of blood,” she narrated tearfully.
Locals also claim that the gunmen, believed to have been Ambazonia fighters, abducted five other people from Magha community and stole money from others.
After the incidents, the community has sent a distress call for the government to rescue them. Some asked authorities to reinforce security by setting up a military or gendarmerie post in Magha.
“The administration should come to our help and see how they can rescue us by providing at least a military base here or a gendarmerie brigade. This is the situation which we are facing here,” a Magha resident stated.
