Colonel Ekosso Lysonge Francis, Deputy National Coordinator of Cameroon’s Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) Committee, has passed away. His death was officially announced on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

Appointed to the role on September 2, 2020, by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, Colonel Ekosso played a key part in the national effort to manage the disarmament and reintegration of ex-combatants in Cameroon. His appointment was part of a broader initiative aimed at restoring peace and promoting stability in conflict-affected regions of the country.

As Deputy National Coordinator, he worked alongside national and regional actors to implement policies related to the DDR program. His contributions included supporting the operational framework of DDR centres and facilitating the integration of ex-combatants into civilian life.

At the time of this report, no official cause of death has been released, and further information is expected in the coming days.

Colonel Ekosso’s death marks a significant moment for the DDR Committee and national stakeholders involved in peace and security efforts. Government officials and relevant institutions are anticipated to issue formal tributes and statements shortly.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new details become available.
