Likomba accident survivors still in critical condition as six confirmed dead

The survivors of two fatal accidents that occurred in Likomba, Tiko Subdivision, on December 13 are still in critical condition in hospitals in Tiko, Limbe, and Buea.

Amid conflicting reports regarding the death toll and the fatality of the accident, MMI confirmed from medical sources and the police that six people died that evening and eight people were injured.

The first of the two accidents occurred at 7 p.m. following a collision between a motorbike and a stationed trailer along Likomba Hill.

Tragically, the bike rider lost his life in this initial collision.

Four hours later, at approximately 11 p.m., a second accident occurred at the same location.

As colleagues were about to transport the deceased bike rider’s corpse to a waiting vehicle stationed opposite the road, tragedy struck again.

A speeding vehicle descending from Mutengene crashed into the group, resulting in five deaths.

All six deceased victims were identified as commercial bike riders operating in the Tiko Municipality.

The police, in their investigations, officially identified some of the deceased individuals:

  1. Enoh Teophile Mbah (first victim)
  2. Tanga Mashack
  3. Njeck Ramous Noah
  4. Tenyong Nerose

In addition to the fatalities, seven to eight other individuals sustained fractures and were rushed to the Tiko District Hospital.

Subsequently, some of the injured were evacuated to various hospitals, including the Mutengene Baptist Hospital, Buea Regional Hospital, and the Limbe Regional Hospital.

The survivors identified by the police at this point include:

  1. Ncha John
  2. Njeck Carlson
  3. Nengun Brownson

The Likomba community grappled with grief and shock as news of the tragic accidents spread.

The loss of lives and the critical condition of survivors have prompted concerns about road safety in the region.

The Tiko Police are conducting thorough investigations into the circumstances leading to these accidents.

In addition to the tragic accidents, a day after the Likomba incidents, another car accident occurred in the same town, specifically in the neighbourhood known as Tiko-Douala.

Fortunately, this accident, which transpired on the morning of Friday, December 15, did not result in any loss of life.
