Limbe: Sports Journalists Association thrash CAMASEJ 6–2 in Press Freedom Day game

Journalists in Buea and Limbe are meeting again this evening to celebrate the 30th edition of World Press Freedom Day. This year's edition has been themed: “Shaping a future of rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights”.

The Association of Sports Journalists in the South West Region overran the Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) with a 6–2 defeat in a solidarity football match to mark World Press Freedom Day.

The game was played at Middle Farms Stadium in Limbe on Tuesday, May 2, on the eve of Press Freedom Day celebrated every May 3.

It included CAMASEJ journalists in Buea and Limbe as well as sports reporters from both towns.

Journalist Basil Mbunye scored the first two goals for the sports journalists while photojournalist Muleng Timngum netted CAMESEJ’s first goal, leaving the scores at 2:1 during halftime.

In the second half, CAMASEJ equalized in the 52nd minute, but Mbante Didi of Ocean City Radio Limbe gave the sports journalists a 3:2 lead in the 61st minute.

Buea MediaAfrique Radio journalist Ezia Ramsey then provided a timely assist to Basil Mbunye, who scored a hat trick in the 78th minute.

Two other goals from Ramsey and Basil ended the game at 6:2 in favour of the Association of Sports Journalists.

Dozens of journalists spectated the game, which ended with a solidarity dinner.

Journalists practicing in Buea and Limbe are meeting again this evening to celebrate the 30th edition of World Press Freedom Day.

This year’s edition has been themed: “Shaping a future of rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights”.
