The Senior Divisional Officer for Menchum in the North West Region has promised to have justice prevail in Esu following the assasination of the village’s royal couple. Abdoullahi Aliou described the assailants as “armed terrorists”. Locals however maintain their ruler was killed by Fulani herdsmen.


The second wife to the assassinated Fon of Esu village and a notable who were injured in the attack on the ruler are out of danger. They had been rushed to hospital after the incident, and were lucky to have survived.


First semester results for the 2021/2022 academic year will be released on Tuesday March 15. The results were approved today during the University senate meeting chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ngomo Horace. At the session, it was revealed by reports from all Heads of Establishment indicate that the calendar of activities was respected, and classes and course coverage complied with the regulations and examination regulations and guidelines enforced.

Web journalist, Paul Chouta is still in hospital after surviving Wednesday’s attack by armed men. His abductors however remain identified and security officials have made no statement over his ordeal. The attack on Chouta comes just months after a two-year-long ordeal at the Kondengui Prison.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has called on the police to investigate the attack on Paul Chouta and bring perpetrator to book. In a statement on the incident, the organization said failure to do so will reinforce perceptions that impunity for crimes against journalists is the order of the day in Cameroon. This, it added, will also be an indicator that journalists like Paul Chouta are not safe in their own country.



Reactions of members of government regarding the ongoing teachers’strike action have generated more outrage. Ministers Rene Sadi, Nalova Lyonga and Laurent Serge Etoundi in a press conference last night made a range of controversial statements including describing striking teachers as patriotic. They also revealed that the immediate payment of teachers ordered by the President will start in May instead.


The March session of parliament is ongoing in Yaounde. Opened today, MPs addressed a range of issues including the teachers’ strike and the African Cup of Nations tournament. In attendance were also members of government including Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute.


A 55 million FCFA worth bus has been handed over to PWD Bamenda football team today. Present were some of the many fans and well-wishers who put resources together to buy the bus. The team lost its old bus last year in a fire incident.
