Mali: Investigations launched into the killing of 43 civilians in two villages

Mali is in crisis, an ethic fight between the Dagon and the Fulani, two influential tribes in the country has left scores of people dead over the last couple of years.

Recent attacks on both villages had over 43 civilians killed including women and children. However, the Fulani association has accused the Malian soldiers of carrying out the hideous act in both villages.

It is widely claimed that certain influential are trying to take advantage of the conflict between the two ethnic groups in order to completely destabilize the country for their own personal political gains.

The Malian government says it has ordered an investigation into whether the soldiers killed dozens of people during an attack on the two villages.
In a statement according to officials, the armed men whom many suspect to be the soldiers raided the village of Binedama on Friday, killing 29 people including women and children, burning down houses according to officials.

They equally stated that the village of Niangassdiou had been attacked two days earlier by the same militia killing 14 people. These attacks in both villages targeted members of the Fulani group, semi nomadic herders who have been accused by rival farming communities of supporting local armed groups, making them targets of violence from the ethnic vigilante militias and sometime the government forces.

These controversies in Mali has only added pressure on the Malian regime to set things right amidst the growing calls for the President of Mali Boubacar Keita to step down from effective immediately. Protesters have criticised the present regime over their careless handling of the conflict between the Dagon and the Fulani ethnic groups of the country, saying an improper handling of the conflict would bring about an unending conflict that may sometime even result to open genocides, a thing the Malian people would absolutely not like to experience.
