After issuing a ‘quit notice’, the transitional military government of Mali has sent the French ambassador packing.
His Excellency Joel Meyer was issued the 72-hour notice on January 31st after being summoned by Mali’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
In a release announcing the decision, Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga, acting Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation & government spokesperson said the measure followed hostile remarks made by the French “despite repeated protests”.
“The government of Mali strongly condemns and rejects these remarks which are contrary to the development of friendly relations between nations,” his announcement read.
The Malian government, Colonel Abdoulaye went on, remains committed to pursuing dialogue and cooperation with the international community but in conformity with the will of its people.
