Mgr Aloysius Fondong Abangalo, Bishop of Mamfe Diocese has blamed the population of Nchang village for the recent burning of a Catholic church by separatist fighters.

He made the declaration during his visit to the scene over the weekend.

According to reports, Msgr Aloysius Fondong Abangalo visited the church in order to retrieve the Holy Eucharist (Body of Christ) from the burnt Church’s tabernacle.

During this visit, the Bishop expressed his discontent vis-à-vis the population, indicating that the perpetrators of the acts are well known by them.

He said: “This is an abomination that has happened in your land. The church will never come back to this town again… To burn a church with Jesus inside, you are simply telling God we don’t want you in our land.”

Despite pleas from the Christians indicating that the orchestrators do not originate from the village, the Bishop insisted the boys are christians of the catholic church.

“I’m saying it, those boys who did this thing are part of our brothers and sisters. They know very well the faith, they are Catholic Christians,” he added.

The visit was the Bishop’s first to the Nchang village.

The Holy Eucharist was discovered untouched and retrieved by the Mamfe Bishop and his delegation.

The St. Mary’s Catholic Parish was set ablaze the previous week by unidentified separatist fighters for not respecting the imposed ghost town.
