The Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Aloysius Fondong of the Catholic Diocese of Mamfe, Manyu division in Cameroon’s restive South West region is underway under heavy military presence.
Cameroon’s President, Paul Biya is represented at the ceremony by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency of the Republic in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo.
Also present are three Army Generals, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, MINEPAT, Paul Tasong, Senate Vice President, Nfor Tabe Tando, the General Manager , GM of the National Hydrocarbons Prizes Stabilisation Fund, CSPH, Okie Johnson Ndoh and a host of others.
This is one of the few high profile events to have taken place in Manyu division since the Anglophone crisis degenerated into armed conflict.
The presence of heavy security is a noticeable factor at the colourful ceremony.
This has become the only means of ensuring that such events do not fall under the attack of separatists fighters.
Bishop Fondong succeeds Archbishop Andrew Nkea who was appointed to the Bamenda Archdiocese.
Until now, Nkea was also the Apostolic Administrator of the Mamfe Diocese
