Mamfe: Suspected Amba boys kill one, abduct three elders in Kajifu

By David Atangana

Atleast one person has reportedly been killed and three elderly persons taken hostage on February 11 in Kajifu, a small community in Mamfe, Manyu Division of the South West Region, MMI has learned.

Villagers said they were also molested and tortured by the armed men in the latest of several assaults on the community.

Locals suspect Ambazonia separatist fighters masterminded the attack.

“Non-state armed groups entered, beat everyone, killed a guy and then carried three elderly people to the bush,” a local source told MMI.

Kajifu has reportedly been targeted severally in the past by separatist fighters.

Under threats, the local population is usually forced to give money to the armed men.

“It has become a normal thing here,” the source said, adding that, “they come every time to demand money from people who have nothing.”

The attack in Kajifu happened a day after suspected separatist fighters killed five CDC plantation workers and injured 44 in Tiko Subdivision, still in the restive South West Region.

MMI has reported the deaths of over 20 civilians in the Anglophone Regions of Cameroon since the start of the year.

This adds to over 6,000 others reported to have been killed in the armed conflict that started in 2017.

The United Nations suggests more than one million people have also been displaced by the ongoing conflict in Cameroon’s Anglophone Regions.
