Man arrested for impersonating teacher, kidnapping student

A man has been arrested for kidnapping a student of the Government Bilingual High School Bafoussam, West Region of Cameroon and demanding a ransom of 3 million FCFA.

According to reports, the man in his 20s got into the establishment by pretending to be in charge of Manual Labor.

“A young man entered the school just like any other teacher. It was on the first day of school and we had recruited about ten new teachers, so everyone could not identify them except the principal himself,” said Maurice Kuipou, principal of GBHS Bafoussam.

“He entered the class about 9:30 am, presenting himself to the students as their new Manual Labor teacher. He spent 5 minutes interacting with the children” added the principal.

After interacting with the students, he asked one of them to follow him to get some Manual Labor materials. The student, ignorant of any mischievous plans, followed him.

The student was taken to an unknown destination by the young man, who later demanded the sum of 3 million FCFA for his release.

After three days of thorough search by the forces of law and order, the fake teacher was apprehended while the student was successfully returned to her home.

The principal of the establishment has however assured parents that everything has been put in place to avoid similar incidents in the future.
