Kenneth, a young man from Nso in Bui Division, lost his life on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, after being electrocuted by a high-tension cable while working on a construction site in the New Road neighborhood of Nkwen, Bamenda III Subdivision.

The tragic accident occurred as Kenneth worked on a building located dangerously close to high-tension power lines. His body was recovered from the third floor by the Army Rescue Unit.

Residents of New Road have expressed outrage, claiming they had previously raised concerns about the risks posed by the building’s proximity to high-tension cables, but local authorities had taken no action.

Kenneth was found wearing a T-shirt, jeans, rubber slippers, and a cap, clothing that failed to meet safety standards for construction work on a multi-story building. His death highlights a broader disregard for safety measures on construction sites, endangering the lives of workers.

Observers have criticized the construction sector in Bamenda for its chaotic practices, noting that regulations are often ignored or poorly enforced. Residents are now calling on local authorities to implement stricter safety standards and address what they describe as “haphazard construction” practices, underscoring the need for a dedicated town planner to oversee urban development.
