Man who beat wife to near death arrested after MMI report

By Tata Mbunwe

Reports say Serge Mukum, a 34-year-old man who nearly beat his wife to death in Garoua, North Region, has been arrested following a detailed report MMI published yesterday on the callous act of domestic violence.

A family source told MMI he was arrested from a bus yesterday by Garoua Gendarmerie elements as he tried escaping to Ngaoundere in the Adamawa Region.

Gendarmerie launched a man hunt against him after the English-speaking community in Garoua made a medical certificate on the abuse and tabled a complaint at the Gendarmerie.

On Thursday, March 2, MMI reported how Serge Mukum was on the run after torturing and severely injuring his wife with a hot matchete on Monday, February 27.

Pictures MMI had received corroborated family members’ accounts on the extent of pain Mukum had inflicted on his wife.

Gytta is currently responding to treatment in hospital.

The 26-year-old Gytta, we are told, is responding positively to treatment at the Garoua General Hospital, where she was hospitalized on Monday.

Her husband had taken her there himself after the torture and lied to doctors she was involved in an accident.

But thanks to one Gytta’s two children, who were present when their mother was being beaten, the public became aware.
