Mane says his family wanted him to marry a 14-year-old girl

Senegalese football star Sadio Mane says that his mother and uncle wanted him to marry a 14-year-old girl, in a resurfaced 2019 interview.

The revelation comes just days after the 31-year-old forward tied the knot with his girlfriend, Aisha Tamba, in a wedding ceremony that reportedly took place on January 7.

In the interview shared by Goal.com and several other media outlets, Mane says, “I wanted to get married, but you know that marriage is a bit complicated.

“I remember one day, my mom and my uncle wanted me to marry [as it is done in the villages] a 14-year-old girl. But no worries; if I find my soul mate, I will get married right away.”

The former Liverpool star’s comments shed light on the challenges he faced in navigating traditional expectations and his own desire for a meaningful relationship.

He officially tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Aisha Tamba, during a wedding that reportedly took place in Keur Massar, Dakar, Senegal.

The blissful ceremony came just days before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations on January 13, where Mane will be leading his country to hunt for a second trophy.

While details about Mane and Aisha’s relationship remained private, reports suggest that they have been together for a significant period.

The newlywed couple’s wedding pictures flooded social media, capturing an occasion that marked the beginning of a new chapter for Sadio Mane and Aisha Tamba.
