In a live video broadcast on May 15, 2024, musician Mani Bella publicly accused the National Social Security Fund (CNPS) of repeatedly harassing her snack bar, Pala Pala City, demanding for money and irrelevant inquiries.
Mani Bella, visibly distressed, accused the insurance fund of targeted harassment.
“I am going through a situation and I would like to talk with you to learn. I want to talk about this with you so that you can give me your opinion. I’m really angry. The problem with our country is that everyone in the world is still in the dark. You know how I love our country.”
She narrated that since the opening of Pala Pala City on April 27, she has been subjected to numerous visits from CNPS agents.
Despite complying with all necessary payments and procedures, she claimed these agents have been harassing her for additional payments and information.
“Just now we had CNPS agents arriving at the snack. They say we have to follow them to the agency to do this and that. All the snack bars that there are in Cameroon, the CNPS never travels to where they are to summon them.”
CLAIMS OF SCAMMING AND UNFAIR TARGETING
Mani Bella expressed frustration over what she perceives as targeted harassment. She said the insurance company threatens the survival of her young business.
“What’s the country turning into? Do you often leave the CNPS to go give the summons in snacks at Monti? I said my structure is not even a year old. I’m not going to close down and you’re not going to do anything to me.”
She recounted how the CNPS agents provided a list and summoned her to disclose employee details, including the number of employees and their salaries.
“It’s your own brothers and sisters of the country who do everything possible to pull you down,” she lamented.
Despite the pressures, Mani Bella remains defiant. “At some point, it’s better to stay abroad. You’re not going to make me shut up even if I have to undress. I did all that had to be done costing me over 2 million. My work, my sacrifice, and my time. Because it’s Mani Bella, that’s why you come to my house. The whole world must see us. You will stop scamming me.”
Mani Bella’s challenges mirrors familiar sentiments among many small-sized business owners in Cameroon. Business experts say high taxation and unfair regulations are suffocating businesses in the country and deterring foreign investors.
She refused to comply with the summons and challenged the CNPS to take further action.
“I will not respect your summons and I will see what you will do to me or do to Pala Pala City.”
The singer called for the support of entrepreneurship in Cameroon, emphasizing that she relies on personal determination and faith.
“Through me and Pala Pala City, we must awaken entrepreneurship in Cameroon. I don’t count on anyone, just me and my God.”
