The newly appointed Indomitable Lions coach, Marc Brys, has commenced his tenure with a national tour of stadiums across the country, a bold move that defies the disapproval of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
The Belgian tactician, whose appointment has been marred by controversy, wasted no time in embracing his new role, despite FECAFOOT’s objections.
Brys signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Ministry of Sports just one week after being appointed to replace former Indomitable Lions captain Rigobert Song.
He started his national stadium tour this morning at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé.
Germain Nol Essengue, the newly appointed Indomitable Lions’ Team Press Officer, announced the tour as part of Brys’ commitment to become familiar with Cameroon’s sports infrastructure before important matches.
Brys’ stadium tour precedes Cameroon’s 2026 World Cup qualifier game against Cape Verde, scheduled for June 7.
With preparations for the qualifiers underway, the new coach aims to assess the facilities and conditions at various stadiums to ensure optimal performance from the Indomitable Lions.
However, Brys’ future with the national team remains uncertain amidst ongoing disputes with FECAFOOT.
Nevertheless, the new coach gives no regard to his disapproval by the Samuel Eto’o-led FECAFOOT, which has insisted on appointing a new coach.
Before he arrived in Cameroon on Sunday night, the 61-year-old reportedly expressed his intention to dialogue with FECAFOOT officials, including former football star Samuel Eto’o, to resolve the impasse.
Eto’o boycotted his agreement signing ceremony at the Ministry of Sports headquarters in Yaoundé yesterday.
In a counterrelease last week, he said the Ministry of Sports violated existing regulations by sidelining FECAFOOT in the appointment of Brys and a team of six others.
The new Indomitable Lions technical team includes Marc Brys (Head Coach); François Omam-Biyick (Assistant Coach 1); Ashu Bessong (Assistant Coach 2); Dany Nounkeu (Team Manager); Christophe Manouvrier (Fitness); Alioum Boukar (Goalkeeper Coach) and Germain Noël Essengue (Team Press Officer).
