Maroua: Gang leader killed in botched robbery on money transfer operator

A gang leader is reported to have lost his life while attempting to rob a money transfer operator by name Ousmane in
Djoudandou, a neighborhood in Maroua, Diamaré division of the Far North Region.

According to reports, the Orange Money operator was targeted at his gate by the gang of three as he returned home from his job site.

He was apprehended by the assailants who requested that he handed over his bag to them. Ousmane categorically refused to comply. The leader of the group then ordered the other two thugs to open fire.

Attracted by noise at the scene, neighbors and passersby alerted the vigilante members of the neighborhood who then got hold of the gang of robbers.

Before their arrival, Ousmane reportedly managed to snatch the weapon from the hands of a second thug posted at the entrance to his house.

Report indicate that the leader of the group was killed in the scuffle that ensued. Meanwhile, two other persons, one of the robbers and the money transfer operator were injured.

The gendarmerie brigade and the police who later arrived on the scene took the two robbers and their weapons away.
