A suspected thief has died after being administered jungle justice by a mob in Maroua, capital of the Far North Region of Cameroon.
As the story goes, the lynched man belonged to a gang of four which had broken into the home of a certain Alhadji Mamadjo in the Lopere district, armed with weapons.
They are believed to have been met with a resistance from the trader, who somehow succeeded to alert the population of the town of the presence of the robbers.
Feeling endangered, three of them took to their heels, but the unfortunate fourth was captured.
He was lynched by the population, and abandoned on the road, in the Lopere neighborhood. The body was left on the road for close to 24 hours.
Municipal authorities have however descended on the scene, and taken charge of the corpse.
Reports say Alhadji Mamadjo, the victim of the robbery, has been a target of several operations from thugs.
Several persons have also lost their lives in the same locality due to the increased insecurity that has taken over in recent times.
