Maurice Kamto petitions gov’t over abducted journalist Martinez Zogo

The Chairman of Cameroon Renaissance Movement party, (MRC) Maurice Kamto, has called on authorities to dig into the case of journalist Martinez Zogo who was abducted on Tuesday, January 17.

Extending his sympathy to the journalist’s family in a tweet on Thursday, January 19, Kamto said the government needs to shed more light on the issue.

“Since yesterday, social networks have been reporting the kidnapping of host Martinez Zogo by unidentified men. I bring my comfort to his family and ask the competent authorities to do what is necessary to elucidate this unfortunate situation,” Kamto tweeted.

Martinez Zogo was abducted in Yaounde by unidentified men on Tuesday evening as he was returning home from work.

His whereabouts is yet unknown since then.

At the time of the incident, he was host of the famous program “EMBOUTEILLAGES” on Amplitude FM in Yaounde.

Reports say he was also heading a complaint filed against media mogul, Amougou Belinga, owner of Anecdote Group, who is being accused of embezzlement in the case file at the Yaoundé Court of First Instance.

Many Cameroonian French Language newspapers have termed the journalist’s disappearance an attack on the press.
