The Mayor of Ndu Council, Abdou Kanfon Borno, has strongly condemned the killing of a couple in Sop on October 1. The mayor called the incident “heinous,” expressing profound sorrow over what he referred to as a “tragic loss of two lives.” He also highlighted the increasing insecurity in the region.

The assault, which took place during the night on Tuesday, resulted in the deaths of a man and his wife. This is part of a series of violent attacks on Sop village which have intensified over the last three months. The mayor stated that the village has faced ongoing assaults, leading to looting, property damage, and deaths. He added that the pattern of violence is a cause of concern, asserting that “the prevailing situation in Sop is a stain on our white garment.” It does not reflect who we are as a community.

Abdou denounced the recent attack with utmost severity, calling on both the authorities and security forces to enhance their efforts in locating the culprits. He urged for the prompt capture of the offenders, asserting that they “must confront the full force of the law.”

“The sanctity and sacredness of human life must not be overemphasized to whosoever,” a statement in the press release read, underscoring the importance of justice for the victims and peace for the local population.

The mayor urged the residents of Sop to stay calm, vigilant, and cooperative with the defence and security forces as investigations proceed. He urged the administration to implement decisive measures to tackle the worsening security situation in the village.

The community has largely blamed the attacks to the Mbororo headsmen. Recent attempts to facilitate dialogue between the warring parties have proven unsuccessful, particularly in light of the latest assault.
