Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappé has formally withdrawn a criminal complaint he filed against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) earlier this year, in a move interpreted as a step toward de-escalation in his dispute with the French club. The French international accused his former club of “moral harassment,” highlighting the treatment he received after he refused to extend his contract for the 2023–2024 season.
The Paris prosecutor’s office received the complaint in May 2025, which stemmed from Mbappé’s sidelining at the beginning of the season. At the time, PSG excluded him from the club’s preseason tour and forced him to train separately from the main squad, a move commonly referred to in France as “lofting” — the isolation of players for disciplinary or administrative reasons.
Mbappé, who had been PSG’s all-time leading goal scorer with 256 goals, left the club on a free transfer to Real Madrid last summer after declining to exercise an optional one-year extension in his contract. This decision placed the Paris club in a difficult position, risking the departure of one of the world’s top players without a transfer fee.
In addition to the harassment allegations, the 26-year-old forward also demanded €55 million in unpaid wages and bonuses from PSG — a claim that remains unresolved. The club has denied any wrongdoing related to Mbappé’s exclusion or financial entitlements.
PSG expressed frustration with Mbappé after offering what they called the most lucrative contract in the club’s history in 2022. The agreement featured high-profile promises, including the recruitment of key players, which Mbappé later indicated were not fulfilled.
The decision to drop the complaint could indicate a shift in focus for Mbappé as he begins a new chapter with Real Madrid. Legal sources cited in French media suggest the withdrawal may have been strategic, allowing the player to move forward without the cloud of a legal dispute.
Analysts interpret the dropped complaint by Mbappé and PSG as a step towards easing the tensions that defined the player’s final season in Paris, even though neither party has publicly commented on the matter.
Mbappé’s case has highlighted the complexities of high-profile player-club relationships, particularly around contract negotiations and player treatment. It also brings into question how clubs handle internal disciplinary procedures and the balance of power between elite athletes and sporting institutions.
Now that the legal case is behind him, Kylian Mbappé will focus entirely on his career with Real Madrid. He has already started to integrate into a team that won the Champions League without him in the 2023–2024 season.
