Days after the gory killings in Mbonge Subdivision in Cameroon’s South West Region, more details of the incident are beginning to surface.

Corroborating earlier reports, sources say the unfortunate incident happened on March 18, 2021 in the village of Foe Bakundu.

After the incident, the army had celebrated the death of the separatist leader, ‘General’ Spirito they said was killed in an operation alongside other separatist fighters.

The SDO for Meme, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong accompanied by some security and administrative officials had lauded the army for the operation.

The operation, they added, was a major success in the war against separatist fighters.

Confirming that Spirito and other separatist fighters were killed in the said offensive, locals note that civilians were a majority of those summarily executed.

“On that picture, 3 fighters were killed and it’s seen clearly.
The guy with the amba coloured trousers was killed on March 18 and his name is Alexi. Spirito’s body isn’t seen in that picture because his body was in front of the door and the other two fighters were behind the house,” CNA quotes a source in the locality as saying.

It furthered reports that three others were lucky enough to only sustain injuries, and a number of civilians remain unaccounted for.

Unbelievably, authorities have, as usual, stayed mute over the civilian casualties.

Despite the raging war, the Biya regime has always expressed support for its soldiers, arguing that it carries out its duties professionally, despite glaring evidence of rights abuses and violations they perpetrate on the country’s Anglophone population.
