Residents of Sop, a village in Ndu, Donga Mantung Division of the North West region, woke up on Wednesday, August 7, to yet another violent attack—the second in less than two weeks, from the hands of Mbororo militia.
Armed with machetes, knives, and guns, the Mbororo militias invaded the village, setting homes on fire, looting shops, and attacking villagers. Reports indicate that some locals were injured during the assault.
Local sources reported that nine shops were looted, a house was burned, family members were brutalized, and a vehicle was vandalized.
Villagers identified the attackers as the same Mbororo militia responsible for last week’s attack, during which a sick person was burned alive.
“We got up to discover that stores have been looted with little or nothing left behind,” said a villager in a viral audio authenticated by MMI.
According to the male voice, “The house of Hamza was burnt, and his wife and children were severely beaten and left with wounds.”
“The grinding mill of Nelson was also reduced to ashes,” he added.
An amateur video shot at the scene shows at least nine shops emptied by the assailants.
“This section had three stores, including a shoe shop and a motorcycle spare parts store. They have all been emptied, like this barbershop,” a voice explained in the video.
Other shops, including a restaurant, were also robbed, according to the source.
MMI also learnt that one of the looted shops belongs to a man whose house was burned last week by the same assailants.
It is worth noting that on July 30, the village was attacked by the same armed men. After wreaking havoc in the locality and burning a sick man alive, they reportedly promised to return.
The local administration has maintained a suspicious silence over these atrocities.
